For the first time in 10 years we went to my families extended family reunion at Camp Lomia in Logan Canyon, Utah. We got to see almost all of my cousins, aunts, and uncles on my Dad's side. I was so fun to see family I haven't seen in years and to meet spouses and children that have joined the family in the last few years. I'm the third oldest cousin on my Dad's side so it was a little crazy to see that some of my cousins (most younger) almost have teenagers! Yep, I got off to a late start, but better late than never.
We camped for two nights after arriving late July 2 and were so grateful to my sister Jill for setting up her tent for us to borrow and making us all very comfy beds complete with foam pads. We all slept well both nights - even T who actually slept better than usual. This was T's first camping trip and I dare say we'd do it again.

Teeth
I don't know why I didn't post this on Tuesday. I must have been really busy with work and getting my braces off and who knows what else.
I got back to work after getting the braces off and had a message from The Scoot that said T had two bottom teeth coming in. I was shocked! Apparently, T yawned and showed off two tiny teeth, just peeking through the gums. I saw them myself when we met for lunch. T showed off his teeth and I showed off mine - covered in a clear plastic retainer instead of silver metal brackets.
Do teeth usually sneak up on parents like this? His, not mine!
June 15, 2011 - Teething or runny nose? Either way, he's going to eat that rag.
I don't know if the teeth have anything to do with it since they are so tiny and not very useful yet, but T has been very interested in solids this week. He's feeding himself well and trying lots of new things. It's exciting to see how his dexterity improves almost daily. He's become quite skilled at picking up small slippery fruits and putting them in his mouth. He was sick for a few weeks, and he doesn't take much interest in solids when he isn't feeling well. I suppose any discomfort from the teeth coming through could have been masked by his cold, but he really is a good natured boy - even when he's ill. He's eating so well that we've replaced one bottle feeding with a solid meal at day care ... Yay! That means we only have to take three bottles instead of four. That's especially good news because I had to start supplementing this month. We made it almost seven months without supplementing.

The Balloon and Other Objects of Interest
It's shiny Mylar with the word 'Congratulations!' printed in brightly colored letters and last night it was T's best friend. I think he held it for a least a half hour while Scott carried him around the house. He was quiet and totally content to just hold the balloon. He even tried to keep holding it while I nursed him. I don't think I have ever seen him so enthralled with anything for so long. Too bad the balloon poses a safety hazard and can't be used as a full time security blanket.
As for where the balloon came from - on Tuesday I got my braces off and the orthodontist gave me a bunch of congratulations helium balloons. The Silver Mylar balloon was the only one still floating last night when T claimed it for himself. I only wish I had a picture of T in his turtle PJ's with his silver balloon.
Over the last month T has really taken an interest in his stuffed toys. We have a net full of them in the corner of his room above the rocking chair as well as strategically placed around the bedroom. I'm finding it harder to rock him to sleep these days as all he wants to do is stare up at the stuffed toys. We like to hold him up to the net and let him pick one. It's fun to see what he chooses.
T has an Ugly Doll Calender mounted on the wall next to his crib. It was a baby shower gift from our friend Vanessa. This month's Uglydoll is bright yellow with a smiling face that takes up most of the page and makes T laugh. We like to stand in front of the calendar so he can laugh at the Uglydoll. I even talked about framing it and hanging it on the wall in his room when this month is over and its time to turn the page. However, last time I showed him the calender he decided to grab and snuggle the soft green frog stuffed toy hanging on the back of his crib instead. I love seeing him so interested in his surroundings.

Chopped Locks
I decided to join my sister, Jill in donating hair to Locks of Love in honor of her Daughter - a cancer survivor. Jill's youngest daughter, Erin, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Lukemia in June 2010. Erin celebrated her second birthday in the hospital after starting chemotherapy. She completed her cancer treatments just before Christmas 2010 after spending 146 days in the hospital. You can read her story here: Little Air Bear.

Milestones and Thunder
We are literally being pounded by rain as I right this ... one of those rare cloud bursts that only happens a couple of times a year and if we were in Utah it would be accompanied by thunder. Oh wait! ... there's the thunder. It's like a monsoon! Scott is taking a few pictures right now, if I get time I'll post them. BUT, what I really hopped on here to post was the cute picture of Torin sleeping in the grass yesterday morning. The blankets are because it was mid morning and he was in the shade. It was a warm sunny weekend and frankly, I'm grateful for the surprise storm. Our house feels cooler already.
Torin slept very poorly last night. I don't know if it was because it was so warm or because he has a cold (we all do). He woke up at 10:30 and wouldn't go back to sleep (that has never happened before). I was already in bed at the time. I woke up again and 11:30 and realized he was still up so I fed him in our bed and took him back to his own when I woke up again at 1am. He slept in our bed again from 5-6:30. Can you tell I'm absolutely desperate for sleep? If he struggles again tonight, I'm not even going to bother with the rocking - he can just sleep in our bed. I really have to kick this cold! ... and so do Scott and Torin.
The "milestone" I refer to in the title is the mostly solid poop complete with swirl I found in the potty yesterday morning. Gross I know - and although I was proud, I didn't take a picture. Hopefully this is the first of many. On a related note - I've only changed one messy diaper in the last week thanks to Torin's current regularity. He graces us with potty surprise shortly after waking nearly every day. I really hope he stays on this schedule. I sure don't miss changing those diapers!
