Stats 'n Stuff

T had his six month well baby checkup on Monday May 23rd. He got his immunization boosters: Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, HIB, Hepatitis B, Polio, Pneumococcal, and Rotavirus. He had a tiny fever, but didn't get cranky.

His growth stats:
Height: 27" (60th percentile)
Weight: 18.19 lbs (53rd, percentile)

Right now, we all have colds. Scott got sick first, then Torin, and now me. Torin's symptoms are very minor so he's at day care today and Scott and I are working from home. Torin's sleep habits really improved - briefly - he would sometimes sleep for four whole hours and only wake up 2-3 times overnight to eat. Now he's started going to bed later, waking up really early (like 5am) and waking up crying every 1.5-2 hours through the night. He is also not napping very well - only 1-1.5 hours a day sometimes. I don't see any signs of teeth and his congestion seems very minor. I have no idea why he's not sleeping, but it sure is wearing us out. When awake, he's generally in a good mood as long as someone is entertaining him. I think he's getting very anxious to be mobile and maybe when he becomes mobile he'll wear himself out and start sleeping. A mom can only hope.

Will he crawl or is he going to go straight to walking? Tummy time has been a struggle for him. He gives up really easily and rolls over. He doesn't like to push himself up with his arms. On the other hand his legs and back are very strong. He loves to "stand" and sit and reach. I just don't know how he's ever going to crawl if he doesn't start using his arms.

We recently taught him a new trick to help him use his arms and hands. When he's laying down (or he's fallen over) and starts to fuss we hold out our fingers or thumbs and say "handlebars." He grabs on with both hands so we can pull him to a sitting position - only recently he's been pulling into a standing position. Its surprising how strong he is. Now I just need to find some incentive for him to use his arms to push his chest off the floor. As soon as he decides to do that I'm confident he'll crawl. I know he can do it, he just doesn't want to.

T is a talker. Two weekends ago he learned to say 'b' and has been using it a lot ever since. So far he says a, b, d, e, g, h, i, l, o, u, w, and y. I've also hear the odd k, m, and n but not regularly. This morning he was sitting on the bed when the kitty jumped up and approached him. He looked right at Schodinger and I swear he said something that sounded very much like kitty (probably kiddy). I don't know if it was a coincidence or his first word, but I'm certain he loooooove the kittys. They even let him pet them sometimes. And in all seriousness 'Kitty' is probably one of the most frequently used words in our household. We are constantly reminding he that "The kitty says meow."
