The Tiny Dictionary

I really need to start documenting T's words so far (Long post Alert!)...

"Car"
This is his favorite word EVER. "Cah Cah Cah ... " he says, pointing at the garage door. What he's after is the Mustang. Although the toy cars and the Kettcar get the pointy finger and exclamations of "Cah," THE CAR is the Mustang. I keep trying to tell him that the Honda is also a car and I think he understands, but the Mustang is a novelty. He loves to sit in the driver seat and turn the steering wheel while making "vroom vroom" and "uht uht" (a "beep beep" that sounds more like a fake burp) sounds. He knows were the horn is and regularly tries to push it, but it's too stiff for him so we have to help out. He never tires of playing in the car. Last night I was trying to help him understand "black car" and "green car" and he was trying to say both simple phrases. I think he may have even talked about the "green car" over dinner.

"More"
We hear "Moh" A LOT, lol. He also does the sign as he says it which is adorable. He uses this to let us know when he wants more food. If we give him more of the wrong thing he points to let us know what he really wants. Sometimes he wants something he already has. He recognizes that the whole pasta noodles look different from the ones on his tray and he wants the ones that look like Mommy and Daddy's! He also says "Moh" when he wants something to eat. I love that he lets us know when he wants a snack.

"Uh Oh"
This has been a regular for at least two months, probably more. He generally says this when he drops something, by accident or on purpose.

"Done"
He's abbreviated "Ah Duh" to just "Duh" and uses this to let us know he's done with dinner and occasionally when he's done with other things as well. He says the word and signs by waving his hands in the air.

"Bye Bye"
This is accompanied by a very smooth little wrist originated wave that I sometimes refer to as the "beauty pageant wave." He actually says "Gye Gye," which is a little funny since he's really proficient at making a "B" sound. He loves to wave bye to people, but my favorite context is in the bathroom. He is very good at bidding farewell to the toilet contents as we flush.

"Hi"
This is relatively new and sounds exactly like "Hi." He enjoys saying "Hi" to random people.

"Thank you"
He really gets this. It's so cute to hear him say "Ki Ku" when someone gives him something. We first heard this while we were visiting The Scoot's parents at Christmas time. This morning he thanked a tiny class mate who handed him a Lego block shortly after we arrived at school.

"Milk"
Ok, so "Nuh" doesn't sound anything like milk to me, but this is what he says as he frantically signs for milk - two little fists opening and closing like milking a cow. If I don't respond to the plea for "Nuh, Nuh, Nuh ..." instantaneously, he tries to lift up my shirt himself. Yeah, I still think this is cute. Oh, and if the milk doesn't flow as fast as he'd like he stops, looks at me, and signs and says "Nuh, Nuh, Nuh ..." again. I've started having to tell him there's a limited supply and sometimes he has to be patient, lol. He absolutely knows what and where the "other side" is too.

"Bubbles"
One day when we picked him up at school, T pointed The Scoot over to the bubble maker and pronounced "Bubah" (multiple times of course). It was a fabulously articulate pronunciation for a 14-month-old. He was very excited about the bubbles and wanted us to help him make them.

"Rasin"
He LOVES raisins. This is one of his new favorite snacks and he can go through almost and entire box in one sitting.

"Kitty"
T loves to follow the cats around and to pet them. He also enjoys helping to feed them. He scoops the food and puts it in each bowl with a little help and wants to keep going even after all three cat bowls are filled. He frequently points at one of the cats and says "Ki-y"

"Da and Ma"
He says "Da" a lot more than "Ma" these days. I think my name is "Nah" (Milk). Gone are the days of random "Dadada" and "Mamama" babbling.

Other words he uses (or has used):
"Grapefruit" (he ate it too)
"Cracker"
"Book" (With a silent 'K')
"Yeah" (An examination of pleasure)
"Duck" (He has/had some duck bath toys)
"Blue" (haven't heard this in a long time, but he said it multiple times)
"Butterfly" (I haven't heard myself, but he says it at school)

T also likes to rattle off "sentences" complete with tonal inflection and occasional emphatic statements, but I have yet to interpret any of these longer utterances.
